ABOUT
Irene Hsi is a performer, dance-maker, and movement teacher. She has been making movement-based performance for over 15 years in NYC, New England, and CA. Irene has performed in places such as Dixon Place, HERE Arts Center, Roulette, The Invisible Dog, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Joe Goode Annex, and Gibney Dance Center. She has also been in site-specific performances at Museum of the Moving Image, World Financial Center Winter Garden, The New School, and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Her work puts questions about identity and politics in dialogue with the body, and has been shown in places such as Joe Goode Annex (SF), LEVYStudio (SF), Dance Complex (Cambridge, MA), Third Life Studio (Somerville, MA), and the TridentGallery (Gloucester, MA).

Artists and teachers who have deeply influenced Irene include Barbara Mahler, Jill Sigman/thinkdance, Nerve Tank Media, Sara Shelton Mann, Michelle Boulé, Anneke Hansen, Emily Beattie, and Allyson Green.

Teaching highlights include being an inaugural teacher for Midday Movement Series (Cambridge, MA) and teaching online classes with freeskewl in 2020.

Recent projects include being in process with Aura Fischbeck, Risa Jaroslow, and the Ensemble For Nonlinear Time with Hope Mohr and Ranu Mukherjee.
