COVID CASTLES (W.I.P.)
A collaborative performance exploration with Marissa Molinar and Jennifer Roberts developed in the fall of 2020. COVID Castles was performed online in October 2020 as part of freeskewl's On The House Performance Series.
For two months, we worked together via Zoom to puzzle through the following questions: Where does safety live? How and where does time and energy accumulate in our living spaces? What worlds can be constructed or past selves unearthed from the objects that are residing with us? Is it possible to find each others’ energetic frequencies through digital connection?
STRICTLY SIDEFLOWER
Performed in July 2019 as part of Summer Performance Festival 12, produced by SAFEhouse for the Arts.
We made a performance structure in which to explore the things read upon East-Asian female-presenting bodies. We asked: how are we expected or not expected to be in space? Then we do both. We play uneasily with “passing”, Whiteness, and finding our place. We dance, we improvise, we use our voices.
It is a test tube. It is trying on skins. It is throwing propriety and misbehavior into a blender to find out what that tastes like. It is anal retentiveness. It is subconscious-mining. It is loud. It is stupid(?)
Created with support by the Dancers' Group CA$H Grant Program and SAFEhouse for the Arts Resident Artist Workshop (RAW).
